The Demand for Fibre

All telecoms companies need to expand their broadband capacity as the demand for bandwidth continues to accelerate. The choices are limited; utilise the existing copper network through systems such as ADSL, VDSL, or through wireless solutions, or through the deployment of fibre. However each of these solutions has its disadvantages.

DSL Disadvantages:

Copper is NOT the answer

Copper is NOT the answer

  • Bandwidth decreases as subscribers increase.
  • Bandwidth decreases with distance from the switching centre.
  • Maximum bandwidth 20 meg.
  • Information can be stolen.
  • Many cables are coming to the end of their working life 50 plus years.
  • In some countries the copper cable is being stolen for scrap.

Wireless Disadvantages:

Wireless is NOT the answer

Wireless is NOT the answer

  • The network is less secured.
  • Bandwidth is low and the signal distance is relatively short.
  • Health Concerns.
  • Cables are still required up to the transmission point.
  • Infrastructure to support the network is complex and expensive.

Fibre Optic – The High speed internet solution

Fibre is the ONLY viable solution

Fibre is the ONLY viable solution

  • Large bandwidth now up to 160 meg into the home.
  • Reliable.
  • Less infrastructure needed.
  • Secure.
  • Not affected by EMI.
  • Small & light weight so will fit in old cable jackets providing a huge capacity increase.
  • But very expensive and disruptive to install ?… Not anymore – with the Kabel-X no eXcavation is needed ! Your copper network can be upgraded to fibre optic at a fraction of the cost and with minimal disruption.
