The Demand for Fibre

All telecoms companies need to expand their broadband capacity as the demand for bandwidth continues to accelerate. The choices are limited; utilise the existing copper network through systems such as ADSL, VDSL, or through wireless solutions, or through the deployment of fibre. However each of these solutions have their disadvantages;

Copper is NOT the answer

DSL Disadvantages
• Bandwidth decreases as subscribers increase
• Bandwidth decreases with distance from the switching centre
• Maximum bandwidth 20 meg
• Information can be stolen
• Many cables are coming to the end of their working life 50 plus years
• In some countries the copper cable is being stolen for scrap

Wireless is NOT the answer

Wireless Disadvantages
• The network is less secure
• Bandwidth is low and the signal distance is relatively short
• Health Concerns
• Cables are still required up to the tranmission point
• Infrastructure to support the network is complex and expensive

Fibre is the ONLY viable solution

• Large bandwidth now up to 160 meg into the home
• Reliable
• Less infrastructure needed
• Secure
• Not affected by EMI
• Small & light weight so will fit in old cable jackets providing a huge capacity increase
